London College Of Fashion Powerpuff Girls Fashion Winners Announced
Cartoon Network UK and the London College of Fashion has announced the winning fashion students for its special Powerpuff Girls fashion showcase which was held at Somerset House last Friday (15th February). The showcase was held on the first day of London Fashion Week (15th to 19th February).
Third year students Cara Edden and Hana Hussein won the £3,000 cash first prize, the winning design was chosen as it “encapsulated the ethos of The Powerpuff Girls through strong contrasts of silhouettes and exaggerated layers”.
A second prize of £1,500 was awarded to Laura Ubeda, Angelo La Barbera, Sofia Marino and Olivia Rubens for being able to represent each of the Powerpuff Girls’ personalities through the use of textiles, prints and fabrics.
A third prize of £1,000 went to Tony Lee, Faye Arguelles, Polina Gorkovenko and Thanakhom Sittiarttakorn for their use of design techniques including 3D embroidery, laser-cut etching and digital printing.
Each entry was reviewed by an expert judging panel, which included fashion influencer, Nathalie Ballout, a style writer, a representative from one of the UK’s biggest fashion retailers, Jessica Saunders – the Programme Director at London College of Fashion and Leila Loumi, the International Licensing Director of Softlines and Health & Beauty at Cartoon Network Enterprises.
While talking about the winners of the Powerpuff Girls fashion showcase, Cartoon Network’s Leila Loumi said:
“The students were inspired by The Powerpuff Girls’ positivity and attitude, and we, the judges, were inspired by the students’ vision and innate ability to take an iconic brand and create something completely new. The future of British fashion is very bright indeed.”
